      March 2005 Tips & Tricks

Don't let the April Fools trickster get the best of you - stay ahead of the game with some tricks of your own! Count on classes at Computer Magic Training to learn the tips and tricks that will make you so much more productive in the programs you use.

Here are a couple of tricks in Office 2003 to increase your productivity right now!

Link data between two files in Office:
If you want data from an Excel spreadsheet to appear and automatically update in your Word document, start by opening both documents. In the Excel document (source document), copy the data you want to show in Word. In the Word document (destination document), place the insertion point where you want the linked data to appear. Choose Edit, Paste Special. Select Paste link, then select the desired format from the As list to the right. Click OK. Now when you update the data in that Excel spreadsheet, it will automatically update in your linked Word document!

Colorize your email messages: If you want email messages from your boss, clients or coworkers to stand out in your Inbox, you can set a rule to automatically apply a color to them. Click once on a message from the desired person, then click the Organize icon (or select Tools menu / Organize). When the Ways to Organize Inbox pane opens at the top, click on Using Colors at the left side of the pane. Select your parameters - for example, Color messages from Sharon Root in Blue … then click on Apply Color. Voila, all the messages you receive from me will show up in blue so you can find them quickly and easily. You have your choice of 16 colors, including some that can be used to de-emphasize (like gray), as well as emphasize (like red) certain messages.
