Eliminate your Frustrations with Office 2007
Our Instructors are reporting the ongoing value of having students take our Upgrade / New Features classes for Office 2007 prior to taking any regular Office 2007 (Level 1, 2 or 3) classes. Employees actually learn the New Features better and can apply them more adeptly, in classes and in their work, when they have been exposed to the New Features in Office 2007.

So consider the value of having hands-on instructor-led classes for Office 2007 New Features before engaging in major skill enhancing classes. It really pays off! If your budget is limited now (we hear that a lot lately), we can provide Demo Training at your site for large groups – it’s more cost-effective and they’ll get exposed to the new options and features in the radically-different Office 2007. We have a 1-day class that covers all the New Features in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Another option is half-day classes in each module, for a 2-day more in-depth approach. Your employees will save many hours of lost productivity and eliminate frustration.

Computer Tips & Tricks
Customizing the Office Button in Office 2007 … or Where did the Print button go?
Many new users of Office 2007 are annoyed that some frequently used buttons aren’t easily accessible now. To add more icons at the very top left of your screen in Word 2007, Right Click on the Office Button (the round button far top left with the colorful Office logo in it). Select Customize Quick Access Toolbar. A dialog box called “Word Options” will open. Select Customize from the list on the left. Then you can select from a long list of category options in the “Choose commands from” drop-down box. You might find the ones you want in the Popular Commands list. Click on a command on the left, and click the Add>> button to move it into the box on the right. We like to add Print Preview and Quick Print to the Quick Access Toolbar. Look through the lists of options and find the command you use most frequently. You can rearrange the order of the icons on your Toolbar by selecting it from the list in the box on the right and clicking the up or down arrows to the far right. When finished, click OK and your new shortcuts will appear on your Quick Access Toolbar at the upper left of your screen.

MURPHY’S MANNERS
POLISHING YOUR PROFESSIONAL IMAGE

Dear Murphy,
I was introduced to a new employee the other day, and when we shook hands he clam-shelled my hand between his two hands. That seemed a little strange to me. What do you think?

Dear Clam-Shelled,
I’m not surprised it seemed a little strange. That kind of handshake is too intimate for someone you don’t know well, and in most cases it is not appropriate in the business place.

Dear Murphy,
I’ve been working for my company about ten months, and people are starting to talk about the company holiday party. It sounds like a few people had more than a good time last year with one inebriated employee winding up in the hotel fountain. I don’t think this is my kind of party, but I I’m afraid it would be a social faux pas not to attend. What do you recommend?

Dear Anti-Fountain,
You are absolutely right to raise your eyebrows regarding the fountain behavior. A company party is still a company event. It’s not the same as partying with your pals. All the rules of good corporate behavior apply. People definitely should not drink too much, if at all. That one can be a career ender. Yes, it’s expected that you attend, so do so, but steer clear of those you don’t care to be identified with.

(Just WHO is Murphy??? Stay tuned to future Newsletters to find out!)
