Software Tips & Tricks – Backing up your Outlook 2003 Rules
Did you realize that when you copy your .pst files in Outlook to back up, that file does not include all the Rules you have so diligently set up to organize your emails? It’s important to make sure you back up your Rules as well, and here’s how to do it:

    1. In the Navigation Pane in Outlook 2003, click on Mail.
    2. From the Tools menu, select Rules and Alerts.
    3. Only IF you have multiple email accounts, in the Apply Changes to this Folder list, click on the appropriate InBox you want to back up.
    4. Click on Options.
    5. Click on Export Rules.
    6. In the File Name box, enter the directory location and file name for your rules backup file.
    7. Optional - If you need to export a file that is compatible with a previous version of Microsoft Outlook, in the Save As Type list, select the version of Outlook Compatible Rules Wizard rules – version 98, 2000 or 2002.
    8. Click Save.
    9. Click OK.
    10. Click OK and you’re done!
    11. Just a reminder to make sure you back up all your files and keep off-site backups as well … remember, Wizard Ron Gallagher said there are only two kinds of people in the (digital) world – those who have lost their data, and those who will. If you should ever encounter the loss of a hard drive, you’ll be VERY thankful you have secure backups!
