The Cost of NOT Training

We often hear of companies investing big dollars in new software programs or upgrades while deferring the cost of high quality instructor-led training. They think they can’t afford training – don’t have the budget for it right now. Is it really too expensive? Spending money on technology improvements without training is a waste of money and a major source of employee frustration and morale problems.

Take Office 2007, for example. A significant number of companies upgraded to 2007 without offering any formal training program. We estimate that the average user loses about 20 hours of productivity in the first couple of months alone if upgraded without training. Many of our clients agree that this estimate is too low, especially if you include the double lost productivity time for the employees they ask to help them. How much is your time, and your employees’ time worth? How much can your company afford to lose?

Annual Salary Dollars per Hour with Benefits 20 Hours = Dollars Lost (conservative est.) Loss without Training for 10 Employees
$40K $27.00 $540.00 $5,400.00
$60K $40.00 $800.00 $8,000.00
$90K $61.00 $1,220.00 $12,200.00
$125K $84.00 $1,680.00 $16,800.00

Clearly an excellent Return on Investment (ROI) for providing high-quality instructor-led training for you and your employees.

Calculate your company’s gain if one of these employees learned techniques that actually saved 20 hours of time per year, and could accomplish even more on the job on an ongoing basis for years to come? We had one student who told us they would have saved 10 hours just the last week alone on a complex Excel spreadsheet. If they saved 10 hours per month at a $60,000 salary level, that’s an annual labor cost savings of $4,800.00 for one employee alone – for a mere $239.00 tuition investment!

Good Karma

We're taking care of Maria's dog Karma while she's traveling this week. Karma's a young dog (3 years old), and she's trying to teach our old dog Wolfie some new tricks. Like running full speed for an hour chasing a ball.

This is good karma for Wolfie, who is energized by all the exercise and good fun.
