Excel 2003 for Financial & Data Analysis 1
This course is the first part of a two-day course that covers Excel features and functions most commonly used by finance professionals. In these six hours the course reviews Excel basics such as customization and data analysis tools as well as advanced concepts including PivotTables, named ranges and custom number formats. Participants will learn to use Auto Filter with the SUBTOTAL function as well as basic functions such as SUM, MIN, MAX and AVERAGE and text functions such as LEFT, RIGHT, MID and SEARCH. Logic functions including IF, AND and OR are covered in depth. The course covers both approximate and exact variations of the VLOOKUP function. 6 hours

Customizing the Excel environment

  • Create and customize toolbars and menus
  • Using custom number formats

Data analysis tools

  • Using named ranges
  • SUBTOTAL function
  • Auto Filter
  • Managing problem data—Using TRIM and CLEAN
  • Managing problem data—Fill in the blanks

Functions and formulas

  • Basic statistical functions
  • Logic functions: IF, AND and OR
  • Text functions: LEFT, RIGHT, MID, SEARCH
  • VLOOKUP (approximate and exact matches)

PivotTables

  • Introduction to PivotTables
Prerequisites:   Excel level 1 or equivalent experience.
